Thirty-in-Thirty, day two. Yesterday afternoon, I started on my second piece in what will likely be a trio of frozen, winter beech leaf paintings. I finished the one above this morning (complete below), and now I’m starting work on a third.
As the leaves of this tree age, they blonde out in the winter sun. Some are blown off by wind or fall to the ground, and the remainder hang on the tree until spring, when they are pushed out by newly emerging leaves. Right now —depending upon where they are located— the color of beech leaves varies from rich, warm orange to rust, wheat and blonde. They are particularly beautiful between layers of thin ice in and amongst the ledges…
