Reeds & Rushes, 2014 – Michaela Harlow – Pastel on Cold Press, Watercolor Paper, 11″ x 15″

Back in the studio today after what seems like a long time away from painting. It feels good to be home, surrounded by the sound of late summer crickets and squabbling bluejays.

I need to switch gears this afternoon and finish up the final draft of a planting plan and layout for a lingering garden design project. I’m eager to tie up loose ends, and focus on work that needs to be done here in the studio: new studio doors, roof overhangs, driveway repairs and brush cutting. Running two businesses solo leaves little extra time, and there’s quite a to-do list to conquer before I can invite guests up to my studio this fall. Time to get to that busy work!

Early morning, back in the studio, working on a new series

I love the light in my studio at this time of year. If I had the time to spare I could sit, watching shadows dance and sipping coffee for hours.
