Melting to Blue, 2015 – Michaela Harlow – Oil on Panel, 24″ x  24″
A 7 am battle. A temper tantrum. A pot of coffee and a walk. To paraphrase Helen Frankenthaler: “Every painting is a journey all its own”. Sometimes you get lost and stuck in the half-frozen mud before you find your way.

Wow. I love the way the elements of this work communicate with each other. Not just the colors and how you’ve arranged them, but also the types of lines you’ve got working together in conversation. I actually think that’s what makes this picture so strong. The color is what our eye first picks up, of course, but then the subtext of the broad strokes and the more “pencil-ed” in lines, the thinner, more ghostly lines compared to the smudged, black lines.
It’s like you know what you’re doing, or something. 😉
I’m really glad to read your comment. Thank you. This painting was a bit of a struggle …Perhaps because I moved back to the square, and the square is tough. At one point, I nearly hurled the thing off my deck. And then, all of a sudden, resolution came.
