Summer Still Life, 2015. Graphite & Chalk Pastel on 14″ x 10.5″ Paper 

Graphite pencil play continues in the studio on these sultry summer days. Things usually start with shades of silvery black and white —chiaroscuro in graphite— and evolve with limited palette of chalk pastel.

I’ve been scaling these up on paper but that really isn’t the support I’m looking for at this point. Something a bit sturdier is in order and I’ve been experimenting without a lot of success. Could this mean a return to raw canvas or linen? Perhaps.
