Easterly, 2016, Oil, Graphite and Pencil on 12″ x 24″ Constructed Wood Panel
New Year’s Day began in the studio with this piece. Although finished yesterday, the underpainting began at mid-day on January 1st. They say that the way you spend the first day of the year sets the tone for the remaining 364. If so, this will be a productive year.
I’ve never been one for resolutions but I am definitely a goal-setter. A lifetime of self employment has taught me that without co-workers, supervisors and evaluations, I need to find ways to make myself accountable to my art. I like to have targets and goal posts to remind me of where I am going, what I’ve accomplished and what’s left to do. The process helps me to organize my process and motivates me to take steps on my path every day.
One of this year’s goals is to scale up dramatically. Next week I plan to shop for larger supports.
